The small farm resurgence is all about people. Farmers and eaters, seed collectors and compost makers, urban and rural folk, alike. Together we are building healthier local communities through farming practices centered on soil-building, and healthy, conscious eating. We are looking for a few good people ready to deliver our produce in 2017. Come share in raising food in the beautiful Wisconsin northlands.
Employment Dates: Middle April – Middle October. 45 hours per week.
Positions: 2 (both filled for 2017)
Pay Rate: $8 – $10/hour based on experience. Housing, fields of produce and shared meals provided.
Location: Amery, WI (Balsam Lake Township). An hour and fifteen minutes from the Twin Cities.

Overview: Working along with us, you will undertake all of the day-to-day aspect of vegetable production. From mechanical cultivation to hand weeding, harvesting to delivery.
Special projects may include light construction projects to improve packing facility and raising a low tunnel.
Requirements: One full season of farming experience. A positive attitude, an ability to work with others and proven experience performing physical labor are necessary. Other similar work experience in busy, productive settings will be considered (for example a professional kitchen).
Schedule: Work day is Monday – Friday from 7:30am to 5:30pm. We have two meal breaks each day, a 15 minute break around 10:30 and an hour lunch around 2:00pm.
Housing: We’ll provide a nicely furnished apartment space while you are working for us. You will have your own bedroom and a shared kitchen, bathroom and common area. Shared laundry is available on site. Utilities and wireless Internet access are included. We live on a beautiful 70 Acre farm that is surrounded by trails mea
ndering back into the woods. During your stay you can spend your free time exploring. We also live across the road from the DD Kennedy Park with lots of trails, a swimming hole, the Apple River and native prairie.
Meals: We will share lunch during the workweek. Breakfast, break and dinner and weekend meals are on your own. You will have fields of produce available for your use.
What Steady Hand has to offer:
- Experience working on a medium sized CSA. Not too big, not too small. 120+ members.
- Experience the flavor of a diversified farm. We distribute our produce through the CSA, and sell at St. Croix Falls Farmer’s market and Chisago City Market along with a handful of wholesale accounts. We are also working with community partners like Project Sweetie Pie and the local hospital to make safe food more widely available.
- Hand weed, drive tractor, seed in greenhouse, deliver produce. If it’s work that needs to be done, you’ll have a chance to do a wide variety of tasks on our farm.
- Work in the northwoods. While your undertaking the vegetable hustle, you’ll find yourself surrounded by beautiful northland woods, with eagles soaring above. We live in a scenic place, and so will you!
